MATH DAY 2010
The fourth annual Pepperdine Math Day was held on Saturday, October 2, on the campus of Pepperdine University in Malibu. The primary purposes of this annual event are to promote interest and reward excellence in mathematics and science, as well as to increase the interaction between Pepperdine and our local Southern California high school faculty and students. Approximately 200 students and accompanying faculty and parents from 17 Southern California schools were in attendance.

The main event of the day was a competitive written math exam.

The visiting faculty enjoyed a talk on the mathematics of bubbles and other discussion, as well as some good company and refreshments. During the lunch hour there were four prensentations to see (students could attend two of four): the mathematics of bubbles, Gauss vs. Euler: who was the greatest?, probabilities in gang violence, and a panel on studying mathematics in college

There were also a number of posters displaying research from Pepperdine students.

On the exam, the overall average score was 23.5 out of 45 (no penalty for incorrect answers). A breakdown of results on the exam is here or a sorted (by percentage correct) version is here. Also, a grade by grade breakdown of the scores is as follows:
