Statistics That Shape the 'Real' Heidelbergers Lives: (to the best of my knowledge)

Married 30

Unmarried 30

Births this past year: 7 Known to be "in the oven": 3

P. S. Special recommendation: don't get pregnant in the summer of 1995?

I was trying to think of a really clever way to start our news this year, knowing that you always expect something clever and totally different from me. I know I think I'll start with the end of the alphabet… I hear Tim Young is working in D. C with Cable News. Todd is still in Kentucky. How old is your Emily now, Todd? Jennifer is still teaching and also plans to go to Rutgers for an advanced degree in Educational Psychology (it makes the prof of Educ 561 so proud...). Eric is bitterly disappointed in not already being VP for AT & T and is considering a corporate take over, but may delay until he finishes his M.B.A. We were lucky enough to see the Wilsons and Alyssa on their visit to the States this summer. They are back in China and there's a rumor they are "pg". Carrie delivered baby Jenna on November 20th, just in time for the Holiday season. Monica, the penultimate teacher, is still in Moorpark and there are persistent rumors that there is more than teaching in her life ... Paul Tyler is still working with Pepperdine with "special constituencies." Great news for me was Karin Taylor Tuckness' decision to move from the Law School down to my new division; The Humanities Divisiorn to become our administrative assistant. Julie Trimble finished Law School here at Pepperdine and passed the bar! Brad is reported to be still teaching and coaching and daughter, Hannah, whom we mentioned for prayers last year, is apparently doing very well! This should be Jan's second year in Law School at Georgetown. Kristy and Brad must have taken a video of everything in our home because after we retumed from our school year in London everything was exactly as we had left it. Kristy is working on her Master's here at Seaver and still teaching at Malibu Park Creedance wants her to let her have her convertible, "Fred", to drive to the new Malibu High School Cara is now a homeowner having purchased a new condo. She also passed her series seven broker's license exam and is working for a stock brokerage firm. I haven't yet talked to Scriv, but his voice does answer on behalf of his answering machine. Still acting Jeff? Since I haven't heard back from Jeff, why not everyone call his answering machine at (310) 451-5757 and wish him happy holidays! "Frig call home. " I still haven't heard from Diana in some time, but I understand she is living in Irvine and working for a Payroll Company. There are also suspicions that she, too, has "someone in her life." Don's a doctor, Kim's a nurse, Jordan's their new baby--think the baby doctors and nurses might have been nervous on that one? Kowanda, Ron, and Derrick are still with State Farm in Oregon. I assumed Jon Rankin was still single for purposes of the marriage statistics at the beginning of this letter. Steve Nicks is in Paris finishing his M.B.A. with Pepperdine, but I understand will visit southern California for the holidays. I didn't hear from Paige this year. Tim Maz finished at USC and has been working for ADP as a district manager. And he may be about to start/star in a tv series. Michaelann is reported to be in pre-production for III in March. Patrick is still teaching Kindergarten bilingually in Pasadena. I am anxious to see the news clips on his involvement in the community as a teacher. Dane has gone to Germany and his company has leased him a BMW and I cannot imagine how fast he must be driving on autobahn--"slow down you move to fast, got to make the morning last... " Kim and Scott are the proud parents of the gospel according to "Luke". Kim continues with "Let's Start Talking." Connie and Rick moved to Arizona to work with a Church there. No word on Jeanne Kroy. Sweetness didn't teach elementary school afterall. He went back to work with Marriott's and is doing prerequisite work at San Diego State to eventually become a Physician's Assistant. Presumably Sarah is still in Connecticut thinking about coming back to southern California? I haven't heard from Cindy since she got married on a boat but I presume things are "smooth sailing"?

I saw Erin recently and received a nice long letter (hint, hint, hint Heidelbergers). She is still at the Monterey Institute but about done with her course work there and considering Ph.D. work in an area that would allow her to work in cross cultural training. And she is going back to Germany in January for a visit. Stephanie brought us Connor on April 28th; Connor weighed in at 8'11 oz. Mark is still being pleasant in Pleasanton. Kevin and Michele are making plans to do Mission work in Austria, perhaps leaving in February. I hear Cristina is working with the San Diego Tribune now. Danielle had a little girl, Camille, June 12th. Camille weighed in at 7'3 oz and was 20 1/2" long. Danielle and John were written up in Pepperdine People for their summer work in China. Brett wrote me a nice long letter (hint, hint, hint, Heidelbergers). His software company is doing very well and it was Brett that alerted me about Dane and Dane's BMW--watch out on the autobahns while you are there Erin. Creedance is sophomore class president in this the second year of their being a "Malibu High School" She continues to play softball (starting left handed pitcher) and has received some special recognition for her writing including an article for a new national publication for school aged students. Janice answers the questions about what she is doing as "whatever I want. " We had a great time in London. But can you imagine that we are now so old that our idea of a great time just before we left was to go down and wait for the lights to come on at Harrod's. My primary assignment of late continues to be in Great Books. I am also involved in a new three year honor's program that will start next Fall. That assignment will allow me to be in London for the Spring/Summer of 1996. I will admit that part of my finagling in that regard was to be over there already for our 1996 reunion. I should also report that Dr. Luft has remarried and is no longer with the Heidelberg program, but Tom has been working on an M.B.A. with a European emphasis. Jeff is now an attorney. Carolyn is working on a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado. Shayne. Janille works for an import firm, "Sculptures of Venice," and is also "due" in May. Debbie brought us 7' 5 oz. 20" Alexa on May 6th. Janice, Creedance, and I saw Caroline and her new baby boy at the 7housands Oaks Mall--such a nice coincidence. I think Audrey is still with The Aetna Life Company. Char is working at a Medical Intensive Care Unit as a coronary care specialist in the critical care unit. The day I spoke with her she'd been one for two and that was a good day percentage wise for saving lives. Russ and Becky report they are doing very well (even though, they say because, they are now working together). They both finished their M.B.A.s with Pepperdine. Id love to see them team teach a college business course. Last year's rumor about Zoila expecting was a) false or b) a premonition because she is expecting a boy to be named Matthew in April. Meanwhile she has been working for Disneyland. Tanja is A.B.D. (all but "disorientation") at UC Santa Barbara. We expect her to come visit Saturday (hint, hint, hint Heidelbergers). Kim Cabe is still with Campus Crusade (a great organization, but one that does not usually authorize April vacations, so Kim, if you need 60 of us to start a letter writing campaign...) Bristow is working as a consultant for Avtovaz Bank, A Russian Bank that also sponsors a school there. She finished her Maste's degree at the University of Michigan in Russian area studies. She's living in the valley. Midori ahas moved back to Washingotn and is reported to be engaged to "Bill" with a wedding date of April 30th. Dena, Jeff, and their little girl are still in Oxnard. Jon finished Law school, passed the bar exam and is still working with the firm where he interned. If you thought Char has a tough job, Shannon is working on children sex abuse cases. She recently sent me Sheldon's "pre-nuptial agreement" that insures she will be at the 1996 reunion. she also had what I think is the great Halloween costume. She wore black, carried a gun and knife, and had cereal boxes taped and hanging all over her costume--yes, a "cereal" killer. So it gose. I can't wait to here Janet's stories from Florence. She married Pepperdine professor Garry Bailey and then they were selected to be the resident faculty family this semester in Florence. The one story I do know is that the whole house got food poisoning from one of the desserts. Did she have Jeff jump into the equivalent of the Rhine Falls? Did she have anyone steal her pajamas? Did she have to investigate the kidnapping of a teddy bear? And I'm confident no one came back to the house having had too much to drink... I've been reading the Liz Smith gossip column trying to verify the rumors that Kim Austin has a social life beyond her teaching at Ambler School; stay tuned. And I want Carlos to bring a film crew to the reunion and do a P.B.S. special on our 1996 reunion. If it worked for the "The Big chill" and "Peter's Friends" why not a feature film on us? Who could possibly be more interesting or deserving than us?

On the Pepperdine homefront I am sure you heard about the fire. It made us remember being in Heidelberg and seeing pictures of the 1985 fire over the Armed Forces Network. Frankly I preferred being in Europe during a fire. We were determined to stay. Afterall nothing happened in 1985. But when the 30 foot wall of flames came over the canyon ridge and the fire department said "evacuate" we left post haste. (I did remember to take our cat and my baseball card collection.) We were lucky. Not a building on campus was damaged, despite how the pictures looked on the news. Several of Creedance's friends lost their homes, but all in all it was rather amazing at how successful the fire fighters were in saving homes. And for a few days how nice everyone was to each other and how much we appreciated all that we have. And this letter is also such an occasion. A joy to think about you all. Wishing you the very merriest of holiday seasons. Think April 1996?
