Option K. A Social Science Perspective on Film.

This material is found at my Web Site. You can find it on my Web Page:
http://www.pepperdine.edu/seaver/hute/faculty/gose/Gose.htm
It is under my button: "Film Reviews."

1. You should read the Introduction and ALL of the reviews contained therein. The Introduction can be found by clicking the line at the end of the Web page that says "click here for more information about the idea." The reviews there should help you focus on the issue of "artistic license" and how social scientists tend to be more concerned about "truthfulness," whereas film makers may take varying degrees of "artistic license."

2. You should watch eleven of the films reviewed therein. After each film notify me where and when you saw that film and include a paragraph on the extent to which you agreed or disagreed with the reviewers points about either the Values in the film, or the Realism of the film. It is usually very helpful to include at least two quotations from the text and then to explain how those quotations have been helpful to your understanding of the film (whether you agree or not). Submit only one review at a time and wait until you have received feedback from me about your review before you submit a subsequent review.

3. By the end of the term write a five page film review comparable to the ones already in the journal and submit it to me. If the review is less than five pages, please respond to the "Expressive Outcomes" assignment from the last paragraph of the description of A.
