Sky Chart and Artist Rendering of Lepus

Origin:
Lepus is an ancient constellation known as the Hare by the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Information:
Lepus is a distinct constellation found easily at the feet of Orion, the Hunter.  Lepus rises almost at the same time as Orion but, being south of Orion, never gets as high in the sky.  Lepus rises about an hour earlier than Canis Major as if being chased by the Great Dog.  Lepus culminates at 9 pm at the end of January.

Mythology:
Orion was particularly fond of hunting hares so the presence of a hare at the feet of Orion is quite appropriate.
