Sky Chart and Artist Rendering of Cepheus

Origin:
Cepheus dates back to before 400 BC but is difficult to date further back.

Information:
Cepheus, the King, is located between Draco the Dragon and Cassiopeia, Cepheus' wife. It is an easily identified constellation described by some as an open envelope which is taller than it is wide, or as a child's drawing of a house. Cepheus is highest in the northern sky at 9 pm around mid-October. With the Milky Way crossing in its southern regions, the binocular observer will be rewarded with spectacular stellar views.

Mythology:
Cepheus was King of Ęthiopia (which is not present-day Ethiopia) or Joppa (present-day Isreal) who was married to the beautiful Cassiopeia. Soon after their marriage, Cassiopeia bore her husband a daughter, Andromeda.
