Trianguli Australis

Sky Chart and Artist Rendering of Triangulum Australe

Origin:
One of the constellations in the southern sky, introduced by Johann Bayer in Uranometria in 1603 although its use as a navigation constellation may date back to Pieter Theodor 100 years earlier.

Information:
Triangulum Australe, the southern triangle, with its three somewhat bright stars (all three of which are brighter than magnitude 3) sits below Norma and is so far south that observers much farther north than the equator have little chance to see it.  Triangulum Australe culminates in the southern hemisphere's sky when facing north at 9 pm on July 18.
