Leo Minor, the Little Lion

LMi

Leonis Minoris

Sky Chart and Artist Rendering of Leo Minor

Origin:
Leo Minor is a "modern" constellation which was proposed by Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius in 1687 and drawn in his 1690 atlas, Prodromus Astronomiae.

Information:
Leo minor is an indistinct spring constellation found almost directly above the "sickle" of Leo. Leo is one of the few constellation that actually resembles the object it represents.  Leo Minor is highest in the northern spring sky at 9 pm around May 1.  Leo Minor, along with Leo and Sextans, lies on the western edge of the Coma-Virgo cluster of galaxies so it's not unexpected that Leo Minor is known for the many galaxies it contains.
